AREAS TO VISIT AND THEIR MAIN ATTRACTIONS:

  • Cape Town – Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, on a peninsula beneath the imposing Table Mountain. Rotating cable cars climb to the mountain’s flat top, from where there are sweeping views of the city, the busy harbour and boats heading for Robben Island, the notorious prison that once held Nelson
  • Pretoria – Pretoria (Tshwane), in Gauteng Province, is the administrative capital of South Africa. Known as “Jacaranda City” for its thousands of jacaranda trees, it’s also home to universities and government buildings. The semicircular Union Buildings encompass the president’s offices and hosted Nelson Mandela’s inauguration. Nearby is the Voortrekker Monument, honouring 19th-century Afrikaans settlers from the Cape
  • Stellenbosch – Stellenbosch is a university town in South Africa’s Western Cape province. It’s surrounded by the vineyards of the Cape Winelands and the mountainous nature reserves of Jonkershoek and Simonsberg. The town’s oak-shaded streets are lined with cafes, boutiques and art galleries. Cape Dutch architecture gives a sense of South Africa’s Dutch colonial history, as do the Village Museum’s period houses and gardens.

  • Assemble at Edinburgh Airport for your flight to London Heathrow Airport
  • Early afternoon arrival into London Heathrow then catch your connecting international over-night flight to Cape Town, South Africa

AFTERNOON

  • Arrive at Cape Town International airport, clear customs and college luggage once through the arrivals hall you will be met by your TEAM Sports Travel tour representative who will be with you for the duration of your tour
  • Board your coach and transfer to Stellenbosch (1hr) to check in for 2-night stay
    • Stellenbosch is a university town in South Africa’s Western Cape province.   • On route to Cape Town stop at the Drakenstein Lion Park & Chimp Haven
    • The Drakenstein Lion Park is a Sanctuary for captive born predators. Drakenstein Lion Park was established in 1998 to provide lions in distress with sanctuary, where they could live in safety, free from abuse and persecution, and be treated with the compassion and respect they deserved. The Drakenstein Lion Park is situated in the scenic Cape Winelands and comprises of 50 acres of sprawling lion habitat.

  • Transfer to V&A Waterfront for your Robben Island return ferry trip and guided museum tour (activity is sea and weather permitting)
    • The group will get to visit all the various heritage sites that reflect the Island’s longstanding multi-layered history, such as the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security Prison where thousands of South Africa’s freedom fighters were incarcerated for years. The tour culminates with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.

    • The TAG Rugby Programme helps give children further incentive to come to school and to get involved in sport. However the programme is not just about sport, it’s about helping develop and grow healthy individuals who will be active contributors to building a healthy community and society. This is in line with the association’s mission which is to “connect people and cultivate an unbreakable team spirit both on the sports field and in the hearts of our nation.”

    • The Apartheid Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid. A series of 22 individual exhibition areas takes the visitor through a dramatic emotional journey that tells a story of a state-sanctioned system based on racial discrimination and the struggle of the majority to overthrow this tyranny. (No guided tours on Monday)
  • Enjoy the rest of the day at Gold Reef City Theme Park
    • Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971, the park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand. Park staff, wear period costumes of the 1880s, and the buildings on the park are designed to mimic the same period.

  • Transfer to Magaliesburg for Zippling for the day.
    • Situated 1.5 hours from Johannesburg and 1 hour from Pretoria, we are located in the beautiful Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve, which is home to some of the oldest mountain ranges. Eleven platforms have been built against the cliffs and rock faces of the kloof and are joined by long steel cables that clients slide along to reach the next platform.. Two trained canopy guides assure the safety of each participant while describing interesting facts about the indigenous plants, ecology and geology of the area. Included in your fee (on top of the 2.5 hour tour) is all the equipment, the 4×4 return trip up mountain, safety briefing and a light meal and refreshments.

  • Check out and transfer to Loftus Verseld for a stadium tour.
    • Loftus Versfeld is a sports stadium located in the Arcadia suburb of Pretoria, Tshwane, which has a capacity of more than 50 000 and is frequently used to host large-scale rugby and soccer matches. Loftus Versfeld is the home ground of Super Rugby and Absa Currie Cup giants the Blue Bulls and leading PSL football team Mamelodi Sundowns.
  • After tour transfer to Dinokeng (Hammanskraal) arrive at Mongena Game Lodge and check for 1-night stay on a full board basis
